Trace Terms Of Use

Terms of Use

These Terms govern your use of Trace. They are written to match the app as it exists today: private by default, local-first, and focused on personal journaling.

Effective date: March 27, 2026

Acceptance Of These Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Trace, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

What Trace Is

Trace is a visual journaling app that lets you create a portrait and gradually reveal it through journal entries. The app is designed for personal, private use and does not require an account for normal operation.

License

Subject to these Terms, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Trace for personal, non-commercial purposes on devices you own or control.

Your Content

You retain ownership of the journal entries, images, and other content you create or import into Trace. You are responsible for ensuring that you have the rights needed to use any photo or content you place into the app.

Your Responsibilities

  • Use Trace lawfully and only with content you are allowed to use.
  • Keep your own backups if your journal matters to you.
  • Review shared or exported files carefully before sending them to others.
  • Protect access to your device if you want your journal to remain private.

No Guarantee Of Cloud Recovery

Trace is local-first. Unless and until a cloud feature is explicitly added, the app does not promise server-side storage, account-based recovery, or permanent restoration of lost data. If you delete the app or lose your device without a backup, your data may be lost.

Exports, Sharing, And Saved Portraits

If you export a backup, share a file, or save a completed portrait to Photos, you direct that action. Once exported or shared, the security and handling of that copy depend on the destination you choose.

Intellectual Property

The Trace app, including its software, interface, branding, and original design elements, is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership of the app itself to you.

App Availability And Changes

Trace may change over time. Features may be updated, added, limited, or removed. The app may also become temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, or platform issues.

Disclaimers

Trace is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the maximum extent permitted by law. No guarantee is made that the app will always be error-free, secure, or uninterrupted, or that all data loss can be prevented.

Limitation Of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer of Trace will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including loss of data, loss of content, or loss of access, arising from or related to your use of the app.

Termination

These Terms remain in effect until they are terminated by you or by discontinuing your use of the app. You may stop using Trace at any time by uninstalling it and deleting your local data.

Changes To These Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. When they change, the effective date on this page will be updated.
